I have a client that is having lots of problems with her ex boyfriend who is using her credit. Is it possible for her to get a new social number and start over all again?

Absolutely she can. There are a few ways to obtain a new number from the SS Admin. In cases of documented domestic violence and harassment, Identity thief, religious thief and in some cases for reasosn that causes anxiety such a specific number. The key is to get document proof to be used.

She will have to apply in person at any Social Security office. They will help her complete a statement explaining why she needs a new number and an application for a new number.

You will need to present:

•Evidence documenting the harassment or abuse;

•Your current Social Security number;

•Original documents establishing your:

—U.S. citizenship or immigration status;

—Age;

—Identity; and

—Evidence of your legal name change if you have changed your name.

Also, we will need to see original documents showing you have custody of any children for whom you are requesting new numbers and documentation proving their U.S. citizenship, ages and identities.
