Child Support Disputes

We are getting several consultants asking questions about Child Support disputes. It is more about how one is thinking surrounding the negative entry. You must first be able to ascertain three things:

1. What is the goal of the client?

2. How is the Child support entry is affecting their score?

3. Is the entry affecting the client’s ability to reach their goal?

It is suggested that you make sure that the entry is being reported accurately and DO NOT dispute it just for the sake of disputing a negative account; it can backfire on your client with a frivolous or locked verified response from the bureau. Only because you are disputing without a valid reason and being dishonest from their perspective. If the amount owed is incorrect, you can disputed it based on that matter by saying something like: “This entry is being reported inaccurately and should be updated or removed at once.

When using the updated language, it will not make the claim frivolous but only suggesting that since it is reported wrong it has to be corrected. Therefore both options will help the client if it is not updated by the human service agency.

If the matter is not affecting the client goal, just make sure the amount is correct but in most cased this entry may remain because they are difficult to get a complete remove if the money is owed.
