How Disputes Affects Scores?

A disputed account is coded indicating that it is currently being investigated. All disputed accounts are temporary ignored within the credit score algorithm and not considered by scoring models.  In this regard, your score can temporary improve.

DO NOT use this as a tactic because it is easy to get the frivolous tag from a credit bureau if you dispute a lot of items on your credit report. In addition some lenders are familiar with this approach and may wait until the disputes have been investigated prior approving a loan.  We have seen this tactic on one item that increased a score by 20-30 points which could go a long way in helping some of your clients.

Just know that if the account is verified it will be added right back to the score.
